OUR FIELD
Nestled
along the banks of the Chattahoochee River in East Central Alabama and West Central Georgia, the Allen Frazier Flying field is located within the City of Valley,
Alabama at the former Shawmut Airport (now the City of Valley Public Works Department). The runway consists of a 30 ft x 400
ft asphalt surface with an adjacent 40 ft x 500 ft grass runway. Member
comfort is afforded by a large open, rustic shelter with electricity. The entire complex is handicap accessible. The field
is within a 5 to 10 minute drive to a variety of restaurants and motels. The field is named for long-time club member, Allen
Frazier. Allen was at the forefront in establishing model aviation in the Valley area, beginning with free flight and progressing
to powered radio control aircraft. He was the mentor of many young and ‘old’ children who began the arduous task
of developing model aircraft flying skills; teaching them the basics of free-flight and leading them to the wonderful of hobby
of sport model radio control aviation. To honor Allen, the Club dedicated the field to him in his prime so he could enjoy
the companionship of fellow R/C’ers. Allen passed away in the Summer of 2000, but his legacy of model aviation will
live as a part of the Allen Frazier Flying Field and the Valley R/C Flyers Club.
